Business leaders are now spending more time dealing with issues relating to sustainability and corporate social responsibility than ever before. At the same time, more companies are focusing their efforts on environmental issues – energy efficiency, renewable energy, environmentally preferable building materials, waste reduction and indoor air quality, among others - than at any time in the past. For the majority, it is a relatively new challenge with few if any best practices yet recognized. Nonetheless, with sustainable design and green building quickly emerging as an imperative, it is essential for organizations of all kinds to partner with a firm that has the commitment, resources and experience to make green building and sustainability a driver of savings, rather than a drain on profits. J.G. Petrucci Co., Inc. (JGPCO) has established itself as one such company.

To begin with, JGPCO is a founding member of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council [“DVGBC” (www.dvgbc.org)], an affiliate of the U.S. Green Building Council (www.usgbc.org).  The councils are not-for-profit organizations that certify sustainable businesses, homes, hospitals, schools, and neighborhoods. As members of the DVGBC we support and develop sustainable alternatives and efficiencies in both design and construction.

Three of our project managers and superintendents, Eric Mitman (Project Manager), Mark Waddell (Project Manager) and Shawn Haggerty (Field Superintendent) are currently “Green Advantage Certified.” Green Advantage® is an environmental certification for building-related practitioners. Certified individuals have successfully passed the Green Advantage® Certification Exam demonstrating knowledge of current green building principles, materials, and techniques. You can learn more about Green Advantage® by visiting their website at www.greenadvantage.org.

Mark Waddell has also received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Professional Accreditation and Jim Vozar is presently undertaking studies toward receiving the accreditation. In addition, Mr. Waddell’s past experience includes a 44,000 square foot Science Building addition for Muhlenberg College (Allentown, Pennsylvania) that obtained a Silver LEED rating.

Whether your organization is looking for LEED certification or one or more components of the overall certification criteria, including:

Sustainable Site Development
Water Savings
Energy Efficiency
Materials Selection
Indoor Environmental Quality

JGPCO is prepared to assist you in identifying all the options and their related costs.  We will provide life cycle analysis alternatives (initial costs versus long-term maintenance and operational costs), from simple components such as roofing materials to complex mechanical systems.

The following applications represent some of the factors that JGPCO can evaluate depending upon the requirements of each specific project:

Best Management Practices for High Quality Water Shed
Low VOC Paints and Adhesives
Low-E Glass
Recycled Materials
High Efficiency Heating and Cooling Equipment
High Output Lighting / Occupancy Control

At JGPCO we see outstanding prospects for buildings that are superior in energy efficiency, provide a healthier indoor environment, utilize recycled materials and more. We look forward to the opportunity of showing you how we can help make green building work for you.
